The program established outreach to African-American and rural families in need of care and a Geriatric Technician training program, specializing in dementia care, for direct care workers. Graduates of the program reported improved job satisfaction and increased confidence. However, lack of financial incentives, ''life challenges'' of economically strained workers, and nursing home resistance to the program created challenges in recruitment.
