Abstract
Social care in England is in a period of rapid change, transition and re-definition. It is becoming increasingly difficult to see where social care ends and where healthcare, childcare, and other community services begin.
Over the next few years this process of evolution will continue. This report focuses mainly on three parts of the workforce: the local authority social services workforce, the social care workforce in residential, day and domiciliary care, and the early years childcare workforce.
The summary describes workforce numbers, demographics, and employment patterns, vacancy and turnover rates, and issues relating to job satisfaction.
The entire report is organized in three volumes: the state of the social care workforce, modernizing the social care workforce, and appendices. Each volume may be downloaded separately.
