Ask Mike - We want to keep my daughters worker

Hi Mike,

I just moved to Arizona and I am in the process of getting my developmentally disabled daughter DDD services. Since I have moved here the process has been very slow so I have been forced to pay a care provider out of pocket. We love her and would like to keep her. Do you know if going through DDD means we will have to hire someone else or can we keep her and put her through an agency? She is not a certified caregiver but she is great with my daughter and do not want to lose her. Please help!

Want to Keep My Daughter's Worker

Dear Want to Keep My Daughter's Worker

Thanks for contacting me. You wrote that you have recently moved to Arizona and you are in the process of getting "DDD" services for your daughter. The process has been slow and you have had to pay out-of-pocket for the assistance your daughter needs. Since you like the worker you are currently paying privately, you want to know if you will be able to keep this same worker when the state's services start by, perhaps, having her enroll with an agency. She is not certified, but she is good with your daughter and you don’t want to lose her.

The short answer to your question is that it should be possible to retain this worker as long as she is willing to meet any applicable certification requirements. The PAS Center website can assist you with finding out more about any worker training and certification requirements by providing contact information for the Arizona Medicaid program know as "Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System".

Go to Agencies Related to PAS. Next click "Arizona" on the map of the USA and then click on "Medicaid Agency". Contact information, including a web site, is available.

If you have already applied for services, especially at a local office, you may be able to find help with this issue by asking that individual or entity at the mailing address or phone numbers provided on their web site.

Good luck with being able to keep your good worker!

Mike Oxford
