Ask Mike - Will my husband's social security affect my VA benefits?

Dear Benefits Conundrum,

My knowledge base is personal assistance services, not Social Security or, especially, VA benefits. However, I do know a little about this and our website may be of assistance. I do not think that receipt of Social Security cash benefits should have any impact on your VA benefits. However, you should check to make sure. Local centers for independent living often have Social Security benefits specialists on staff and many Protection and Advocacy agencies have grants to assist people with Social Security. These organizations may be able to assist you directly and if not, can likely refer to someone who can answer your question with more authority.

On our 'Agencies Related to PAS' page look at "Protection and Advocacy Agency" and "State Independent Living Council and Centers for Independent Living" (Start with the one closest to you, but you could try them all), or "Aging and Disability Resource Centers."
